This workshop is for First Nations Women*
This 3-hour interactive workshop will provide Indigenous entrepreneurs with the knowledge and skills to develop their business ideas using the Business Model Canvas. Using the Business Model Canvas as a guide, participants will learn about important topics, such as key business partnerships, key activities, resources, value propositions, customer relationships, channels, cost structure, revenue streams, and more.

About The Instructors:
Shyra Barberstock, PhD
Dr. Shyra Barberstock is the President and CEO of Okwaho Equal Source, a boutique Indigenous entrepreneurship and business development consultancy, and Kebaonish Inc., a tea and coffee company. She has over a decade of experience as a professional Indigenous researcher and is well-versed in Indigenous entrepreneurship, economic development, and business relations. Dr. Barberstock received formal training from the Rotman School of Management in Design Thinking and the Playing to Win framework used by Fortune 500 companies worldwide. She was the first Indigenous Innovator-in-Residence at the former Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Lab in Ottawa. She is recognized as a practitioner of Indigenous social innovation and Indigenous business development by the Government of Canada. She has championed critical initiatives as a business leader, including the Indigenous Climate Hub and the successful WES Ecosystem-funded Queen’s University Kwe-Biz program for Indigenous women entrepreneurs and SMEs. Dr. Barberstock completed her Ph.D. in geography and planning at Queen’s University, with a research focus on Indigenous business, supply chain, and procurement. She is Anishinaabe on her maternal side, of French descent on her paternal side, and a member of the Kebaowek First Nation in Kipawa, Quebec.
Ryan ‘Rye’ Barberstock, PhD Candidate
Ryan ‘Rye’ Barberstock holds multiple leadership roles, including co-founder, vice president, chief operations officer at Okwaho Equal Source, and chief communications officer at Kebaonish Inc. He has a strong background in Indigenous relations and community business development, experience in senior communications and leadership positions at the National Indigenous Organization level, and capacity-building roles in First Nations communities in southwestern Ontario. Rye previously served as co-chair of the Indigenous Knowledge and Learning Working Group at the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario. He has received formal training from the Rotman School of Management in Design Thinking and Advanced Business Design. Additionally, Rye was an Indigenous Innovator-in-Residence at the former Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Lab in Ottawa and has worked as a recognized advisor in Indigenous relations, Indigenous business development, and nation-building. He also co-facilitated the Kwe-Biz Indigenous women’s entrepreneurship program. Rye holds a Ph.D. in geography and planning from Queen’s University, with a research focus on the Indigenous regional economy and cultural resurgence in the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Belt territory. He is a member of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, located in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, Ontario.
