First Nations communities have always played an integral role in the history of farming and agriculture which has shaped the industry around the world
The goal of First Nations Ag is to engage First Nation Youth’s interest in farming and agribusiness possibilities and opportunities
Who we Teach
For First Nation high school students, 4-seventy-five minute curriculum based lessons have been created and a fully trained Seven Generation instructor will lead students through each lesson. Lessons include; Local and Global Food Impacts, Past, Present and Future, Honouring Our Relations, & Food Sovereignty
Our Lessons
The following is a list of the workshop topics offered through the First Nation Agriculture & Finance Ontario. FNAFO are of First Nation background with a passion for sharing topics in agriculture, food, health and the environment with you and your students. All workshops are linked to the Ontario curriculum and are science-based, balanced and accurate.
Grades 7-12 teachers can choose from the 4 topic choices below. All lessons are modified accordingly for the appropriate grade level.

Students will learn about agriculture and food as well as its relationship with First Nation peoples from the lens of the past, present and future. Students will culminate the lesson by exploring career pathways available to First Nation youth in the agri-food sector related to technology and advancements in agriculture and food.

Students will discuss the ideas of living in kinship with the land and the relationship between traditional First Nation practices with modern First Nation agriculture.

Students will discuss the ideas of food sovereignty and food security. They will connect traditional ecological connections to current agricultural practice through a variety of classroom discussions and optional activities. They will also explore career pathways available to First Nation youth in the agri-food sector related to local and global food systems.
